Meek credit card company clerk Ernest Klenk is feeling the pressure of demanding coworkers, new computers, and an upcoming wedding. This stress leads to a big mistake -- the accidental approval of a credit card for mobster Foots Pulardos, who is planning to flee to Mexico with his girlfriend, Sugar Pye, to avoid criminal charges. When Klenk tries to fix his mix-up, he gets dangerously involved in Foots' scheme.

The absurd adventures of two defective detectives, who - despite unbelievable incompetence - somehow manage to solve their cases (or be nearby when the cases are solved) and retain their jobs.

The Detectives is an American crime drama series which ran on ABC during its first two seasons, and on NBC during its third and final season. The series, starring motion picture star Robert Taylor, was produced by Four Star Television. Captain Matt Holbrook (Robert Taylor) is head of the detective division of a large metropolitan police force—a man whose devotion to duty, professional brilliance, and quick judgment are reflected in his 20-year career on the force. His aides, Lt. Johnny Russo (Tige Andrews), Lt. Otto Lindstrom (Russ Thorson), and Sgt. Chris Ballard (Mark Goddard) form a team that is both proficient and warmly human. The stories stress the interrelationships between the men as well as the solutions to crimes and the apprehension of criminals, adding a dimension of human drama to the excitement, action, and suspense inherent in each story of the detectives' difficult, sometimes thankless, and frequently dangerous assignments.

Shinjuku has descended into chaos. Former Hanayuki family members Ryushin Takeda (Mikio Osawa) and Daisuke Tsurumi (Junichi Kawamoto) murdered their own boss and wakagashira, then began recklessly invading other territories. After their casino is hit, Hozumi (Seiki Nagahara), head of the Hozumi group under the Kurohime family, moves to retaliate—but the conflict is settled when Ryutaro Dojima (Yasukaze Motomiya), head of the Doryukai and Kurohime family Wakagashira aide, takes responsibility for the fallout. Intrigued by Takeda and Tsurumi, Dojima has them share sake cups and brings them into his family.At the same time, Chifumi Iwaguma (Hidekazu Akai), head of the Iwaguma group under Japan’s largest syndicate, the Udagawa-gumi, visits Hozumi and proposes a brotherhood pact. As everyone schemes to rise to the top, a new era of yakuza conflict begins.
